Floating Las Vegas Coming To Chicago ?
A bit of Las Vegas could be coming to Lake Michigan if a group of entrepreneurs can raise enough funds and win public support for their plan to build a large floating resort complex dubbed Breakwater Chicago. The concept is to build a small “island”, roughly 300 feet long and 100 feet wide that would look similar to a large yacht but would feature three restaurants, a swimming pool, shops and a spa. The island would have a 2,850 person capacity and reps from the team state in their Kickstarter video that the aim is to make the project a top tourist destination in Chicago. Local design shop SPACE Architects + Planners has been tapped to render the development (if you can call it that) and has revealed a plan that shows an open-air complex during the summer and a dome-covered complex for the cold winter months. The project will cost an estimated $23 million to develop and construct, so what’s up with the $30,000 Kickstarter? According to the Breakwater team, the point of the Kickstarter campaign is to build grassroots support and to give Chicago residents a feeling of ownership in the ambitious project. At this point, the Kickstarter campaign is more than half way to its $30,000 goal.
